Caitlin McCormack
Caitlin McCormack’s process of stiffening string into intricately crocheted forms with glue is fascinating for a number of reasons. First of all the technique produces pieces which are similar to delicate bone tissue, which makes her skeletal creations all the more convincing. Beyond that though, the genesis of her art practice is fascinating. Both the techniques she employs, and the initial materials she used to fabricate her works, were inherited from her grandmother. Having been taught how to crochet at an early age McCormack didn’t really anticipate that it would become a central concept in her artistic journey, initially it presented a way of giving new life to objects that had been passed down to her. Her signature style is instantly recognizable and has garnered widespread critical acclaim as well as an enthusiastic and ever-growing list of collectors
