Christina Keith - “Astral Inheritance”

Bio and Statement: 

Christina Keith is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who creates and teaches outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Christina’s painting process incorporates vintage maps and charts, which lie in-between layers of paint via an acrylic image transfer process. When developing paintings, Christina often works from several photographic references to create a space that lies somewhere between real and imagined. 

Christina’s series “Astral Inheritance” pairs animal portraits with celestial maps that feature their namesake constellations. This collection explores ancestry, impermanence, and the interconnectedness that we share with one another and with the natural world. Christina finds inspiration in motherhood and within her own intergenerational relationships. These paintings are a nod to the people who have shaped her and a reminder that, even though our individual lives are temporary, we can form legacy through the connections we build with others.
