"There are women not privileged enough to be Tiger Mothers. Women who do not have the means to give everything and anything to their children. Women who hope for the best when thinking of their children’s future. But too often, hope and luck is just not enough to make it in life. Like the tough as nails, willing-to-sacrifice-anything mothers they are, these women will say “Fuck it” and continue to work even longer hours."
-Statement on "No Luck Good Luck" from Sally Deng
Sally Deng’s childhood consisted of playing in the back room and parking lot of her family’s small restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. Within her work, Sally explores different environments and experiments with how the idea of space can be manipulated and inhabited. She uses a mixture of mediums to create textures in her art to reference the gritty city parts she grew up in.
