Sarah Conti - A(n Extinction) Fable for Tomorrow
An (Extinction) Fable for Tomorrow. The title is inspired by Rachel Carson’s book ‘Silent Spring’ which opens with a fable for tomorrow- a true story using examples from communities where the use of DDT caused harm to wildlife, birds, bees, agricultural animals, pets, and humans.
This installation has 26 birds native to western Oregon that are all in decline due to human’s environmental impacts, tied to 26 dead birds of different North American extinct species (nearly all who went extinct in the last 150 years due to humans.) Birds are dying off at an alarming rate, for a myriad of human caused reasons. They are harbingers of the world we are making.
