Scott Listfield - Island Stories
This is a story about going north, and it begins on a boat. First Canada, then Greenland, and finally Iceland. I was on that boat. You probably guessed that part.
The boat stopped, and I got off and walked a long muddy road to what I hoped would be a waterfall. It was more like 20 waterfalls. I kayaked a fjord. I climbed a volcano. I had an encounter with a very angry looking sheep. I watched rivers snake down hills encased in fog, and wrap themselves around gigantic rocks resembling pieces of ancient and mostly buried statues. I rode a scooter across an island in search of a puffin. I eventually found one.
I made 12 new paintings for my latest show Island Stories, opening November 28th at Antler Gallery in Portland, OR, inspired by this trip I took north.
