Zoe Keller - Scale & Bone
This beautiful series focuses on at-risk or extinct snake species. The collection is comprised of three diptychs and four larger drawings. The diptychs focus on species threatened by habitat loss and homogenization of ecosystems. Of the four larger drawings, three are concerned with longleaf pine forests which have been reduced to just three percent of the 90 million acre area they once covered in the southeast. The three snakes explored here are shown among the species they share their habitat with. The final piece depicts a species which has been officially classified as extinct despite persistent rumors of sightings since that decision was taken in the 1950s.
