Moving to Sydney, Australia as a child, he was instantly drawn to the natural wildlife of this new country. Fascinated by the local animals and landscapes, he drew inspiration from his new home, as well as scientific plant and animal specimens, entomology and taxidermy. Today, Thomas puts a modern take on ‘Natural History Illustration’, painstakingly creating smaller scale works for galleries and translating these into large scale public murals
In late 2018, Thomas set off on a trip to Europe to explore new places, species and people, while getting a better understanding of places previously visited. While moving through this diverse and interesting part of the world, Thomas took this opportunity to gather inspiration for his new body of works.
Spending time in Iceland, England, Holland and Belgium, Thomas was introduced to many new and beautiful animal species as well and a new color palette distant from the colors in his Australian home. Experiencing new types of green, woods and lush grasses all filled with small
birds, moths and their predators was an enriching and overwhelming new ‘Discovery’.
