Glass Boxes is a series that explores how we contain memory - how we attempt to hold, preserve, and make sense of what is slipping away. The work considers the emotional weight of objects: how the ordinary becomes charged through association, holding magnitudes of presence, absence, and grief.
The series sits in tension: holding on and letting go; containment and exposure; preservation and loss. When my mom, Marne (a lifelong artist) began her decline into Alzheimer’s disease, her work shifted. She started creating pieces enclosed in plexiglass boxes, a departure from her earlier practice. Each box is an encapsulation of where she was at that time, protected and unreachable.
My paintings are a response and a companion to her work. Together they form a dialogue across time and memory, between mother and daughter.
