Lauren Marx created this piece for Antler Gallery's annual show "Unnatural Histories" in 2016.
Found flying high above mountainous terrain in eastern Europe, the critically endangered pigeon gryphon uses stealth to catch their preferred prey, the rock dove. Their stone-colored feathers and fur aid in camouflaging the 50lbs predator among gray cliffs and rock ledges, while their talons ensure a tight grip on their speedy prey.
